by Chelsea Tripp, DVM, MS, DACVIM (O)

Oncologist Dr. Chelsea Tripp discusses the background and presentation of mast cell tumors, then walks through their grading, behavior, and prognosis. You will then learn how veterinarians can screen for this disease with a new, non-invasive screening tool.

Learning Objectives

  • How to speak to pet owners about the initial diagnosis and general treatment approach of mast cell tumor-specific oncology cases
  • Overview of MCTs: definition, origin, and predisposition
  • Spectrum, properties, and types of MCTs
  • Diagnostic grading and characteristics of MCTs
  • An overview of the HT Vista, a new cancer screening tool that helps veterinarians identify malignant cancer early

Part two will present a side-by-side conversation between Dr. Tripp and Clinical Pathologist Dr. Anna Meredith that will guide general practitioners on how to approach clinical cases involving MCTs, the difference between cytologic and histopathologic grading, and how to work through cases with discrepant diagnostic information.
